  • Pitched & wrote top-performing pieces, including: roundups of discontinued fast food items, weird ice cream flavors, each state’s favorite potato-based side dish, bizarre bubble tea trends, internet-famous pizza toppings and best last-minute Halloween party foods

  • Optimize articles for selected SEO keywords using TF-IDF Tool, MOZ, Text Optimizer and Google Analytics

  • Optimize headlines based on SEO and update throughout the day as needed (depending largely on traffic)

  • Keep up-to-date on MSN’s algorithm changes to increase MediaFeed’s odds of getting placed on the first page of MSN News or Microsoft Start

  • Create content & schedules for social media (MediaFeed did not have a social media presence before I took over this role; since October 2021, our referral traffic has gone up 29.8 percent)

  • Make graphics for Pinterest & Instagram posts

  • Arbitrated with Twitter to take over the @MediaFeed username from a non-active account

  • Build & line edit stringer & freelancer stories in CMS

  • Create style guides for MSN and MediaFeed.org content & trained stringers and freelancers using them

  • Point-person on website redesign, including: selecting and creating content for new pillars and verticals based on top-performing articles, work with stringers to create a more straightforward CMS, redesigning the site layout and look, and building affiliate marketing, ads and sponsorship relationships

Michigan Press Association News Scholar and National Newspaper Association Fellow

August 2019-May 2020

  • Chosen as one of four statewide MPA college scholars and the only one chosen for the fellowship

  • First SVSU student to receive either honor (Note that the fellowship was in conjunction with the National Newspaper Association and involved a reporting trip to D.C. that was canceled because of the pandemic)

  • Awarded $500 scholarship based on undergraduate news clips and written essay on democracy & reporters

Michigan Press Association College 2019 Contest
